Why Our data is the Oil of the Near Future ?

In the near future, data will replace petroleum, which is the subject of major countries dispute.

Whoever has the largest number of data on people will lead the world, and thus tech companies will be in the lead.

Why Our data is the Oil of the Near Future ?

  • Facebook :

We will start talking on Facebook, since most of us use Facebook or one of its products (Instagram, WhatsApp). Facebook is the largest media advertising company in the world, but it does not produce any advertisements.

Facebook has all its users data from the first day the user opens his Facebook account, every small and large registered with it - these recorded data are : your exact home address even if you did not enter it, phone numbers registered on your phone, interactions that you made on all posts, ads that you clicked on, friend requests that you refused or accepted, calls made I received it on your phone (not Messenger calls) and many other critical data.

In recent years applications have started to exchange data between them, for example : When you search for something in an online store, this information will be sent to Facebook that you search for that thing and what  I did it when you searched for it, whether you bought it or not, and so Facebook will show you ads based on the information shared from other applications, and Facebook will not let you get out of it easily, it is according to your interactions with the videos, it will show you your videos You like according to the information recorded on you from the interactions and increase your browsing time on Facebook and thus see more ads, and with all this data, the company will analyze it, extract your interests and preferences, and even use it in matters that you may not want.

  • Amazon:

When you browse to Amazon at a glance, you will find random things, and are common in your country, but the second time you will find products that you like and according to your taste.

Amazon records your browsing data from the things that you searched on, bought and clicked on, and even the data that you searched on outside of Amazon, they use your cookies, all of them are recorded in records attached to your browsing location (IP address).

Amazon today can tell a woman if she is pregnant or not, male or female, before the woman knows that, and therefore if a woman is pregnant with a child, she will show her products that a pregnant woman needs and the things necessary for a baby, all this, of course, by analyzing the recorded browsing data.

We took just two examples, and Google is the largest company that owns our data and is among the companies that are leading the world now.

AirPnp is an apartment rental company that does not own any apartments but is a giant company, Uber is a taxi company, it does not own any cars but it is also a successful company.

This is thanks to the data that has been manipulated by data science and deep machine learning.

But can these companies use this information outside their scope, (Studies, Public Opinion confusion, ...)

In the election, Trump resorted to a media company emerging in Silicon Valley and the latter resorted to Facebook in order to obtain data for people residing in America, and thus will learn everything that the majority of this people want from the next president and their attitudes, especially in the case of a case related to their country.

The company helped Trump's campaign with ads promoting Trump claiming that he is the people's hero, and therefore here the people have been professionally manipulated.

All Tech companies today are data hungry like Tik Tok an application that was banned in America, whose downloads reached 1.3 billion, is ranked third after Messenger and WhatsApp, and the number of its global users reaches 717 million monthly users, which is a huge number, and the parent company byte-dance for this application declares and says "Tamkeen"  People can listen to content that is played via artificial intelligence technology, "it studies every user and knows what his preferences, interests, things he likes, and so on... It is able to filter things that users like before they even know they will like it.

He is also able to delete things that he wants to appear like the Hong-Kong protests in order not to affect public opinion and remain invisible to the people as if no one knows about them.

Facebook has also been held accountable for blocking certain content in certain countries, but Facebook refused that and said we do not do that, and if we do so it is at the request of their government, such as the Turkish government.

And there are many such data-hungry platforms that are increasing like, Netflix, YouTube,….
