Most of the people who write their doctoral thesis (if not all of them) use LaTeX instead of Word for several reasons, including:
- LaTeX file size is small compared to Word.
- Separating images and chapters from the document means an organized document.
- Works on all platforms.
- For Free.
- Easy to handle and provides a lot of ready-made templates.
How do you work with it?
It has special tags that you use, meaning it is similar to HTML. For example, if you wanted to insert the alpha symbol (α), you would write alpha \ and so on.
The important thing is that we knew what LaTeX is, and its function. We can go back to the topic. We have come to the site of Overleaf.
If you are using LaTeX then Overleaf makes this easier, especially when you are working remotely with a team on the same file.
What I liked about the site:
- Work online and you will not need to install programs on your computer (meaning everything is on the cloud, and you will not be afraid of losing your files in the event of a computer problem - God forbid -).
- The ability to contribute (Collaborations) with your team and work on the same project.
- Communicate with the team (Chat).
- Review, means someone appreciates the text, and the team determines the text and gives you notes about it (whether to improve it or for something else).
- Synchronize and upload updates made directly to Dropbox, Git and GitHub.
- Templates for either the master's reports or the PhD thesis, you can use them easily.
In the future, when you need to write reports, topics, summaries, ...) Remember that there is something called LaTeX that can be useful to you.
And when you have time, it is good to learn it and add it to your skills, especially since it is not difficult to master, as you may need it someday
